How to Use This Chart
This chart lists typical sizes for common breeds. Dogs within a breed vary a lot, so use it as a starting point. Confirm the size with chest, neck and back measurements.
Chest girth is the most important number. Measure around the widest part of the chest, behind the front legs. Back length runs from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Breeds That Need Special Fits
Dachshunds and corgis have long backs and short legs. A standard sweater fits the chest but ends too early on the back. They need a longer body in the same chest size.
French bulldogs and pugs have wide chests and thick necks. They need a wider chest and neck opening than the back length suggests. Italian greyhounds and whippets have deep chests and narrow waists. They need extra chest depth and a shorter belly.
Planning a Wholesale Size Run
Look at the breeds your customers own most. Toy and small breeds buy the most sweaters, so many buyers order more XS to M. Shops near cities often sell more small sizes than rural shops.
